I do apologize for not getting in touch with anyone last night. One would not normally expect a Thesis Defense that started at 1pm to result in my getting home at 10:30 that night, but then again, I foolishly miscalculated just how much academics can just sit and drink and talk.
The Chair of the English Department said he had never seen a Thesis Defense that had looked so much like a peer discussion group and less like an inquision. (Still looked like a grueling two hours, I don't envy you X!)
The end result is that my father is now a Doctor of Medieval English ... and he is not going to let me live this one down for a while.

In about an hour I am going to watch my father defend his PhD. After that I believe that my family wants to go out to dinner, but honestly I have no idea what the plans are.
I don't expect to be out past 8 ... so what might work is that Blades could pick me up from my parent's place around 7:30-8ish and take me out to the GNHQ. I will post more details later if I can.
That is my idea, otherwise discuss amongst yourselves.
VLAD, GO TO CLASS .

Random Linkage:
* Sarcos Exoskeleton: A real exoskeleton right out of sci-fi being produced for the military. The American military, I think.
* 'Temples of Damanhur': Big crazy underground hidden temples.
* Games Radar - Feel Inferior by Watching 10 of the Godliest Gamers in Action: Nobody cares about a 5 minute Mario run, the Tetris guy is playing a version that lets him hold a piece for later use, but the rest? Neat.

Since Vlad and Twinkles don't love us, or care enough about X to be here when she is in town, it looks like Festivus will have take place on Thu Jan 3rd. It will happened at the GNHQ as Jericho will have had his fill of homeless squatters and cold cut dinners at his place over the holidays.
Ideas for New Years… start throwing them up.
I would like to do the buffet thing on New Year's day again.

No, no. I'm fine.

My list is pretty open ended...
*Books*
-Whatever that book was that Jericho showed me in Chapters.
-Any other military/sci-fi series you think I might like(no Wheel of Time crap, that's never gonna end now)
*DVDs*
-Scrubs Season 4
-Sopranos Season 3
-Serenity, the Firefly movie
The DVD series are rather expensive so would probably require people to group up for them.

Might I suggest we start dinner at 8, not 7. It is going to be a long slow crawl out to Orleans tonight methinks.

Geek Thanksgiving is Tommorrow!!!
No one has updated with what they are bringing, so some ideas if people are stuck:
-Salads (green or pasta)
-appetizers (M&M & Loblaws have some great throw in the oven ones)
-desserts, only need 1 or 2 of these.
-simple main courses like meatballs, pastas, etc....
Start time of 7ish, food will be served and eaten around that time, so lets all try to get there (Vlad) around 7pm =-)
I will bring some drinks and chips/nuts as snackies as well as the fud!
Bad news as well, due to her schedule on friday (working super early) and the fact that she hasn't seen the kids much, Willow has decided stay home tomorrow (sniff). But I will make sure to eat enough for both of us...

I know I talk about Blogcritics to much, but I am writing a review for the upcoming Futurama movie and I just found out I am going to be interviewing David X Cohen as well!!! I have no fing idea what I am going to talk to him about...some thoughts so far, but advice would be appreciated:
-his early days and stepping into the lead role on Futurama
-thoughts on appearing in the show
-since he started as a writer (and still writes for Futurama) his thoughts on the strike
-His thought son the futurama ressurection (there will be 13 new episodes and 4 movies)
anything else? I think I have 15-30 minutes...

I would appreciate if Christmas lists could be posted soon, since I'm doing most of my shopping online and need to place orders in time for things to be shipped to my parents' place. :)
Also, New Year's plans? If I'm supposed to be packing an evening gown, I need to know by December 20, so no last-minute jiggery please!

Gah...5 yes FIVE disc Blade Runner Blu-Ray released before Christmas...how much you say? 100 dollars? NO!! 50 Dollars? NO!! 28 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has to be the best deal I have ever seen...check out the deets, I am in geek heaven, I don't care which one of you gets this for me, but once my Festivus list of greed is ready this will be at the top of it....GAAAAHHHHH! High Definition Blade Runner, lossless 5.1 audio...le sigh....
Disc One
RIDLEY SCOTT'S ALL-NEW "FINAL CUT" VERSION OF THE FILM
Restored and remastered with added & extended scenes, added lines, new and cleaner special effects and all new 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. Also includes:
* Commentary by Ridley Scott
* Commentary by executive producer/co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher and co-screenwriter David Peoples; producer Michael Deely and production executive Katherine Haber
* Commentary by visual futurist Syd Mead; production designer Lawrence G. Paull, art director David L. Snyder and special photographic effects supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich and David Dryer
Disc Two
DOCUMENTARY DANGEROUS DAYS: MAKING BLADE RUNNER
A feature-length authoritative documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this hugely influential cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film -- from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its controversial legacy and place in Hollywood history.
Disc Three
1982 THEATRICAL VERSION
This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene.
1982 INTERNATIONAL VERSION
Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.
1992 DIRECTOR'S CUT
The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.
Disc Four
BONUS DISC - "Enhancement Archive": 90 minutes of deleted footage and rare or never-before-seen items in featurettes and galleries that cover the film's amazing history, production teams, special effects, impact on society, promotional trailers, TV spots, and much more.
* Featurette "The Electric Dreamer: Remembering Philip K. Dick"
* Featurette "Sacrificial Sheep: The Novel vs. The Film"
* Philip K. Dick: The Blade Runner Interviews (audio)
* Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Cover Gallery (images)
* The Art of Blade Runner (image galleries)
* Featurette "Signs of the Times: Graphic Design"
* Featurette "Fashion Forward: Wardrobe & Styling"
* Screen Tests: Rachel & Pris
* Featurette "The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth"
* Unit photography gallery
* Deleted and alternate scenes
* 1982 promotional featurettes
* Trailers and TV spots
* Featurette "Promoting Dystopia: Rendering the Poster Art"
* Marketing and merchandise gallery (images)
* Featurette "Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard"
* Featurette "--Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers"
Disc Five
WORKPRINT VERSION
This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Batty (Rutger Hauer) and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more. Also includes:
* Commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner
* Featurette "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut"

-Due to work issues, I'm not sure if I will be able to make it to Aikido tonight. I'll post in the comments when I get home whether I am going or not.

-We can try the webcam out if X is home.
-Damn! I really need some Fanta with Rum right now.

Geek Night at the Lair this week as I am in Halifax next week. For those of you with allergies, I suggest you start taking pills now since Blades is to much of a wuss to sit with the window open. I now have a webcam that (sort of works) through MSN, but not Skype.
KAMB! as I finally got the new rulebook in the mail.
I'm a Believer! A video for 'Apollo's Pad', a show Vlad and his East Coast Crew were working on.
and finally Garbage Can Samurai
