Star Trek Online is now Free to Play. I tried it last night and they have seriously upgunned it since they launched a year ago. Some new things....
1) The missions feel more like being in the TV show instead of grinding in World of Warcraft now.
2) You can wander around your ship now! Not a huge thing but a nice touch.
3) You get disposable minions that you can send to their death (up to 100, and you can get more so they are a renewable resource)
4) You can switch modes midgame from RPG style wandering to 3rd person shooter mode for fights now, which is a lot more fun (Look a Borg.....headshot!)
My old character was still active on the freebie account so let me know if you decide to try the game out and I can help you in my Assault Cruiser!

I just did a diplomacy mission last night where I had to keep 2 Cardassians captains from killing each other in my Ready Room. Lots of running back and forth and using the terminals to research what they were saying. Not hard, but definitely felt more Star Trek-ish

I should be able to play on a laptop, it worked fine on my work one (*cough*).
I most likely won't be online tonight much, but probably tomorrow evening if all is quiet.
P.S. apparently some of my minions managed to get shot on their away missions overnight. They are resting fine in Sick Bay (I think)

Yeah, it went F2P on the 18th so I imagine the server is getting hit pretty hard.
The starting area is swarmed with new ship captains already. Some of them are pretty cool and creative, some of them not so much. Ship names I have seen so far...
